The Carleton Place Canoe Club is offering winter training programs for athletes looking to take the next step in their sprint canoe/kayak journey. Our winter programs are designed to help athletes develop specific strength and fitness elements that contribute to on water success in our sport. Winter training is extremely important for athlete development, especially for athletes hoping to progress to the provincial, national, and international levels. It is also a great way to stay strong, fit, and healthy in a fun and knowledgeable environment.
Our 2020-2021 winter programs will begin on Monday, November 9th and will continue until Saturday, May 1st. The club will be closed for Christmas from December 21st – January 3rd, however athletes will be provided a program to complete at home during this time. The club may also be closed for two weeks in March while some athletes are participating in the provincial team spring training camp. Athletes at home will be provided with a program to complete at home during this time.
Below are the winter training programs the CPCC is offering in 2020-2021.

Swimming - The CPCC will be renting the Carleton Place Pool for training sessions 1-2 times per week between November and March. Monday afternoons will be swimming day, while Friday afternoons will vary between swimming, virtual circuit training, and virtual yoga/stretching sessions. Friday swimming dates will be available shortly.
Saturday Training - Saturday training sessions will be dedicated to long base aerobic training and are open to all winter program athletes. These sessions will not always be coached and are not considered in the number of weekly training sessions per week for each program. Running, XC skiing, cycling, etc. are all especially important training tools to develop a strong aerobic base in athletes. These sessions will be at various locations dependant upon weather conditions and athlete ability. If a session is not coached, instructions will be provided to the athletes with regards to training expectations.
COVID-19 Policies, Procedures, and Change Rooms
Policies and procedures regarding COVID-19 will remain in place throughout winter programs. Access to changerooms will be available, but only for a maximum of 3 athletes at a time and for a 15-minute time limit, and masks will always be required while indoors. Showers will NOT be available. Athletes will still be expected to arrive ready to train to minimize the requirement to use the changerooms.
The following measures will be in place to minimize the opportunity for spread of COVID-19:
· Athletes will be split into training groups of 5-7 for use of the weight room due to space restrictions and to be able to maintain physical distancing as much as possible
· Athletes will be paired with ONE other athlete in their group for spotting and workout stations
o Pairs will be required to stay at their exercise station until all pairs have completed their respective exercises and stations have been thoroughly sanitized by the athletes that used the equipment
· Cleaning supplies will be set up in each station for use between each station transition
· A hand sanitizing station will be provided for mandatory use between exercises
· Masks will be worn at all times while in the weight room, even while completing weights workouts
Program Cancellation or Changes due to COVID-19
If programs are required to be cancelled or altered due to COVID-19, the CPCC Board of Directors will form a committee to determine changes to programs fees or pro-rated refunds. If in-person training becomes unavailable, the CPCC will continue to run programming virtually through an online meeting platform.
