Come paddle with us!
The Carleton Place Canoe Club aims to provide the Carleton Place and surrounding communities with all levels of programming pertaining to flatwater canoeing and kayaking, including sprint racing, dragon boat racing, summer kids camps, flatwater recreation, and flatwater introduction. The CPCC is committed to promoting life-long physical health and wellbeing, and providing appropriate programs to support the best development pathway for all athletes in their pursuit of individual and/or team excellence.
The Carleton Place Canoe Club is a not-for-profit organization with over 125 years of history. Managed by volunteers and professional staff, we offer a variety of paddling programs which are designed to promote a positive self-image, an appreciation for the sport and the spirit of cooperation and fair play for participant’s ages 6 years old and up. Our programs provide a group environment where beginner and experienced paddlers can develop skills in all boats; singles, doubles, fours, as well as war canoe and dragon boat. Competitive programs provide the opportunity for all ages to compete in regattas throughout the region, right up to a Provincial and National level.
Coaches, staff and volunteers work hard to ensure the safety of all participants on the water. As well as being competent paddlers, all coaches at the club are certified through our National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), are confident swimmers and have Motor Boat Operator Certification. Safety boats are always within sight and ready to respond. To provide a safe and secure environment for our weekly summer camp programs the minimum ratio of staff to participant is 1:10. For all other kids programs, the minimum ratio of coaches to kids is 1:12.
The club has recently undergone a revision of our programs to better align with the Canadian Sport for Life’s (CS4L) Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. The LTAD model is a framework that provides paddlers at all stages of development the opportunity to be the best they can be. With that in mind we have created the CPCC Paddler Pathway to clearly outline 3 different participant streams; Introduction, Competitive Development, and High Performance, as well as the progression from one stream to the next
This is what we do, this is who we are. #WePaddle
