U10 Sprint Racing

 Our U10 Sprint Racing program for ages 8-9 is an 8 week summer program designed around Canoe Kayak Canada’s FUNdamentals and Foundations stage of the Long Term Athlete Development plan. Athletes will work with our friendly, experienced, and certified coaches to learn about water safety, introductory sprint canoe and kayak technique, and physical literacy through games both on and off water. All of our staff are certified by the National Coach Certification Program and are passionate about teaching our members about the importance of water safety in a fun and knowledgeable environment. We also focus on building a strong base for athlete development with regards to technical understanding and an appreciation for the sport. Some of the activities each day will include sprint kayaking and canoeing (singles, doubles, and fours), war canoe, and dry-land games. Athletes in this program will be expected to participate in a few regattas throughout the summer. Please see the EOD Regatta schedule on our website parent information section.


Ages: 8-9 as of January 1st, 2020

Cost: $995 for 8 weeks (June 29th – August 21st, 2020)

Schedule: 9:00am – 4:00pm (before and after care is available from 8:00am to 5:00pm for an additional $35 per week, or $210 for the whole summer)

Program Requirements: Must be able to swim 25m (any stroke) and tread water for at least 1 minute (as per the National Lifesaving Society swim to survive standard.

Volunteering: This program requires a minimum of 10 volunteer hours per family, or a $100 volunteer opt-out payment. All registrants will be required to submit a volunteer cheque or deposit to complete registration.

Please note that your registration is not complete until your account is paid in full and you have submitted a signed waiver and code of conduct. Payment can be made online upon registration or by credit, debit, or cheque in the canoe club office by June 15th, 2020. Athletes will work with our friendly, experienced, and certified coaches to learn about intermediate to advanced sprint canoe and kayak technique, physical fitness, race preparations and strategic development. Athletes in this program will begin learning about goal-setting, nutrition habits, and self-care strategies. All of our staff are certified by the National Coach Certification Program and are passionate about teaching our athletes to be active in a fun and knowledgeable environment. We also focus on building a strong base for athlete development with regards to technical understanding and an appreciation for the sport and physical exercise. Some of the activities each day will include sprint kayaking and canoeing (singles, doubles, and fours), war canoe, and dry-land games fitness activities. Athletes in this program will be expected to participate in a few regattas throughout the summer, with an opportunity to qualify for the Canoe Kayak Ontario Provincial Championships in August.
