Competitive Youth Racing

U10 CYR

 

Designed around the Fundamentals and Foundations stage of CKC's  Long Term Athlete Development plan, participants ages 8 to 9 (as of January 1st of competition year) will be taught fundamental canoe and kayak skills, such as balance and boat control, steering, and basic technique. Primary focuses in this program will be around physical literacy both on and off the water, as well as fun and safety in the athlete environment, and pure enjoyment of sport and fitness. Participants will be given the opportunity to compete at local regattas. The events schedule can be found under the parent information section.


Carleton Place's youth programs reinforce important personal skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, building self-confidence, and they teach the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.  All of Carleton Place's programs are led by friendly, dependable, knowledgeable and certified staff.


Dates: Tuesday, July 2nd - Friday, August 23rd from 9:00am - 4:00pm (pre-post care is available for $40/week). Please note that Monday August 5th is a holiday, therefore the canoe club will be closed.

Ages: Participants must be aged 10-11 as of January 1st 2019

Cost: $855 + $100 insurance & affiliation fee & $30 Capital Improvement Contribution

Program Requirements: Must be able to swim 25m (any stroke) and tread water for at least 1 minute (as per the National Lifesaving Society swim to survive standard.

Volunteering: This program requires a minimum of 10 volunteer hours per family, or a $100 volunteer opt-out payment. All registrants will be required to submit a volunteer cheque or deposit to complete registration.

Please note that your registration is not complete until your account is paid in full and you have submitted a signed waiver and code of conduct. Payment can be made online upon registration or by credit, debit, or cheque in the canoe club office by June 15th, 2019. Primary focuses in this program will be around both physiological and technical development. General aerobic endurance, speed, nutrition, and goal setting will be some of the primary target areas of this program, as well as fun, water safety, and pure enjoyment of sport and fitness. Participants will be given the opportunity to compete at divisional and provincial regattas. The full event schedule can be found in our parent information section.
