The Carleton Place Canoe Club offers weekly summer camps for children aged 6-9. Our Canoe Kids program is a great way to get your kids playing outside, learning about water safety essentials, and developing skills and confidence in flat water canoeing and kayaking. This full week program is filled with fun and adventure, making use of the beautiful Mississippi River running through the heart of Carleton Place.
Participants will spend time learning to care for equipment, learning how to tip-turn-tow in their boats, and practicing skills in a variety of different types of paddle sport vessels, including dragon boat, recreational canoes, sprint canoes, and sprint kayaks. Their day will begin at 9:00am and end at 4:00pm, with pre and post care available beginning at 7:30am and ending at 5:30pm. A typical day will be split into four 90-minute blocks, with at least one of those blocks being a dryland activity (game, crafts, day trip, etc.).
All of our canoe club staff are certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) with a minimum Canoe Kids Community Coach certification. They are also all licensed pleasure craft operators and competent paddlers and swimmers. With safety as the first priority, having fun in a knowledgeable, social, and cooperative environment are key components to running our very successful camp programs.
Program Dates: All weeks between July 2nd and August 30th are available
Program Cost: $205/week, or $165 for a short week (when Monday is a holiday)
Age Requirements: Participants must be age 5-8 as of January 1st, 2019 (for older campers, see regatta ready)

Full summer campers will explore the Mississippi River with certified instructors in canoes, kayaks, war canoe and dragon boats, learning the essentials of water safety and developing their paddling skills in a fun and safe environment. Along with other club programs, campers will have a great time challenging their own abilities while developing self-confidence and team work skills.
Campers will learn the fundamentals of paddling through a progressive learning approach. At the completion of each week, campers will be awarded a certificate outlining the skills and knowledge acquired during camp. With each additional week at the camp, paddlers in the full summer program will build upon their confidence and abilities to reach higher levels of personal development.
