ADULT SPRINT & RECREATION PROGRAMS

ADULT SPRINT CANOE/KAYAK (Masters)

Cost: $575 (includes general membership, program fee, insurance, and affiliation fees)
- Race or regatta travel fees are not included.
Program Hours/Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays: 6:30PM - 8:00PM

SPRINT PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to swim 25m (any stroke) and tread water for at least 1 minute, as per the National Lifesaving Society's Swim to Survive standard.

Our Adult Canoe/Kayak Program is designed for participants 25+ and follows the Active for Life stage of CKC’s Long Term Athlete Development plan, emphasizing fitness, fun, and well-being. This program caters to both beginners and experienced paddlers, focusing on skill development aligned with personal goals. Participants can choose to join competitive or recreational opportunities in canoe/kayak singles and crew boats. While participation in local, divisional, and national regattas is optional, it offers a great way to challenge yourself and work as part of a team.

The CPCC Adult Program fosters a friendly, social atmosphere, perfect for meeting new people and learning exciting new skills. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the beautiful Mississippi River in the heart of our town. Whether you prefer intense training or a more relaxed pace, our program provides something for everyone.

ADULT REC. & FITNESS PADDLING

RECREATION PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to swim 25m (any stroke) and tread water for at least 1 minute, as per the National Lifesaving Society’s Swim to Survive standard.

The CPCC's Recreation and Fitness Paddling program offers Carleton Place and surrounding community members the chance to explore the Mississippi River while learning the fundamentals of recreational canoeing, kayaking, and Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP). This 12-week program includes coached sessions twice a week, where participants will receive expert instruction from our National Coach Certification Program-trained coaches. The focus is on fitness, touring, and recreational paddling using equipment such as touring kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and pleasure canoes. Each session includes 45 minutes of coaching followed by free paddling at your own pace.

Your registration also includes a General Membership, granting access to our facilities and equipment during open hours.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP

The Carleton Place Canoe Club's General Membership program, introduced in 2019, is designed to encourage more community members to experience the beautiful Mississippi River. Whether you're a former paddler returning to the water or a beginner looking to enjoy a relaxed pace, this flexible membership provides access to our club's equipment and facilities.

General members can use club equipment and facilities during designated hours (outlined below). Note that no programming, coaching, or instruction will be available during these times. Members may sign out approved equipment from the dock supervisor and use it within the designated areas.

A General Member includes individuals registered in a U12 or older full summer season program, such as Sprint Programs (U12, U14, U16+, Adult Canoe Kayak, Adult Recreation & Fitness Paddling), General Membership Registrants, and Lifetime Members.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP: RULES & EXPECTATIONS

General Membership Hours (2025 season):

Wednesday: 5:00PM – 8:00PM
Friday: 5:00PM – 8:00PM
Saturday: 11:00AM – 2:00PM
Sunday: 9:00AM – 12:00PM

Age Restrictions:

Minimum age for registration is U14 (12-13 years as of January 1st, 2025).
U12 and U14 participants must paddle with adult supervision unless they pass a skills assessment. U14 participants can complete a skills assessment to paddle unsupervised (contact info@cpcanoeclub.com to schedule).
U14 participants who pass the skills assessment must still have a parent/guardian on shore for supervision.

Supervisor Rules:

Supervising adults must be registered in a program or as General Members, and must be 18 or older.
The supervisor must remain on the water with the participant unless the skills assessment is passed.
Supervisors can oversee no more than two participants at a time.

General Membership Rules:

Life jackets with whistles are required for all participants under 17.
Life jackets with whistles must be in the boat for those 17 and older.
Paddlers must remain within 25m of shore.
Paddlers over 16 must stay within the designated area; U14 paddlers cannot go beyond the 500m point.
Use only club-owned equipment unless personal equipment is used.
Sign equipment in and out with the Membership Supervisor.
Paddlers must use appropriate equipment for their skill level.
Put equipment away when finished.
No abusive behavior or swearing will be tolerated.

Failure to follow these rules may result in membership revocation without refund.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to complete registration, you must submit a signed waiver, code of conduct, concussion code of conduct (for each of your registered participants), and payment in full (prior to the program start date). Our waiver and codes of conduct can be found in the 'Important Info' section of our website, and payment can be made by credit card online (subject to a 3% transaction fee), by cheque (dropped off at the CPCC office) or via email transfer to finance@cpcanoeclub.com.
