WHAT WE OFFER

About the Carleton Place Canoe Club

The CPCC is a vibrant, not-for-profit organization with over 130 years of history, making it Canada’s longest-standing paddling club. Rooted in tradition yet always evolving, CPCC is a community-driven club dedicated to fostering a love of paddling, promoting inclusivity, and supporting athletes at all levels - from beginners to international competitors.

Governed by a passionate team of volunteers and managed by professional staff, we offer a diverse range of paddling programs designed to inspire confidence, develop skills, and instill values of teamwork, respect, and fair play. Whether you're a youngster taking your first strokes on the water, a recreational paddler seeking fitness and adventure, or a dedicated athlete striving for excellence, CPCC provides a welcoming environment for all.

Programs for Every Paddler

At the CPCC, we believe that paddling is for everyone. Our programs cater to participants aged six and up, offering opportunities to paddle in singles, doubles, fours, war canoes, stand-up-paddleboards, and dragon boats. Whether you're looking for a fun introduction to the sport, a social and recreational paddling experience, or a structured competitive program, we have a place for you.

For those who want to test their skills in competition, our sprint racing programs provide the opportunity to compete at local, regional, provincial, national, and even international levels. Regardless of their goals, all CPCC paddlers benefit from expert coaching, a supportive community, and a strong foundation in skill development.

Commitment to Safety and Excellence

Ensuring a safe and supportive environment is our top priority. Our coaching staff are certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), Safe Sport Trained, and hold Pleasure Craft Operator Licenses. They are also strong swimmers and undergo regular training to maintain the highest safety standards. On-water safety boats are always present during training and programs, and our summer camps maintain a minimum staff-to-participant ratio of 1:8, while sprint programs maintain a 1:10 coach-to-athlete ratio to ensure personalized instruction.

A Pathway for Every Athlete

The CPCC's programs are guided by Canoe Kayak Canada's Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, ensuring that paddlers have access to age-appropriate training and growth opportunities at every stage. To support this, we have developed the CPCC Paddler Pathway, which clearly outlines three participation streams:

  • Introduction to Paddling – For those new to the sport, offering fun, skill-building experiences in a supportive setting.

  • Competitive Development – For athletes looking to improve their abilities and compete at various levels.

  • High Performance Development – For dedicated paddlers aiming to compete at the highest levels provincially, nationally, and beyond.

More Than a Club – A Community

At the CPCC, we are more than just a paddling club—we are a community. We believe that sport has the power to unite, inspire, and create lifelong friendships. Our club is a place where paddlers of all backgrounds and abilities can come together, challenge themselves, and celebrate achievements both on and off the water.

Whether you’re here for fitness, fun, competition, or camaraderie, the CPCC is proud to offer a place where everyone belongs. Join us and be part of our tradition, our passion, and our future!
