About the Building

In 1983, through major fundraising efforts as well as a lot of sweat, blood and probably a few tears, the facility received a major overhaul and was expanded to its current state. Through an amicable agreement, the Carleton Place Canoe Club currently leases the facility from the Town of Carleton Place. As part of the expansion, the facility houses public washrooms which may be accessed by the general public using the park facilities. Through this lease arrangement, the club is responsible for all repairs, maintenance etc. on the facility. In return, the club maintains full control over the facility, including the upper hall, which it then rents out as a source of fundraising revenue.

The downstairs of the building (at ground level) houses the boat bays, club changerooms, a large room currently being utilized for paddle storage, a repair bay as well as the public washrooms (which are accessible from the exterier of the building only).

The upper portion of the club is divided into a large main hall (with stage), the David G. Findlay boardroom and a functioning kitchen. The main hall has seating capacity slightly over 200 and is used throughout the year for one-time rentals such as wedding receptions etc., as well as multi-time rentals which include a Tai Kwon Do club, Seniors' fitness club, Yoga and ballroom dancing (among others). A third floor loft, houses the weight room utilized by Canoe Club members only.
